Past Campaign Promises
When I ran for the Jeff Alexander’s vacated seat, I stated that the Budget Surplus needed to go to three places:
Education – Road Construction – Tax Cuts
The Republican controlled legislature increased public education spending by 19.7% in 2007 and by 57% of the new ongoing money in 2008. Teacher salaries were increased by $2500 in 2007 and by $1750 in 2008. With my children in public schools I am a staunch supporter of public education as well as protecting parents’ educational choices and addressing the difficult educational funding issues that Utah faces.
Working as a team, Utah County Legislators secured the necessary funding for
I-15 and Utah Valley University.
Cut taxes by over $220 million which helped insure that we maintain Utah’s place as the #1 economy in the nation. Over the past year, Utah has received three separate awards for being the best managed state in the nation.
I promised to take on the difficult task of illegal immigration. I showed that I was not afraid of taking tremendous criticism and name calling and do what I thought was fair to the millions of families and children around the world who are suffering, dying, and trying to come this country legally. I thought having a wife who is a legal immigrant from the Ukraine and business partner who is also a legal immigrant who my family sponsored from Ethiopia would protect me from the blistering personal attacks and misrepresentations of my position, but I was wrong.
But it does not matter, I will stand up for what I believe is right regardless of the consequences. |
